Attorney Luis Cortes is from Morelia, Michoacan Mexico. He holds a Baccalaureate degree from San Jose State University in Sociology, and Mexican-American Studies. He also holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Idaho College of Law. After being an educator for several years in low-income communities around the San Francisco Bay Area, Luis focused his community advocacy from the classroom to law.
Luis’ desire to be an advocate for the immigrant community developed through his
experiences as a DREAMer. He came to the United States when he was 1-year-old and has been in the U.S. ever since. As a DREAMer, Luis knows first hand the struggles and inequities that the undocumented population faces. Luis has extensive experience working on immigration cases ranging from: U-Visa, Removal Defense, Waivers, Asylum, Family Based Petitions, Naturalization, Green Card Renewals, and Violence Against Women Act petitions. Luis is our Washington Managing Attorney and he is passionate about advocating and helping the immigrant community.
